Varicose Veins: Battling the bulge

Dr. Locastro and the Total Vein Treatment Center specialize in laser closure of the causes of varicose veins.

Most people who suffer from varicose veins have a backup of blood in the greater saphenous vein, a vein that runs from the groin to the ankle. Dr. Locastro can “weld shut” the parts of this vein that are abnormal, preventing the blood from backing up. This is done under local anesthesia, and patients typically resume normal activity in a day or two.

Often this will cause the dilated tributaries to shrink back to their normal size; for those cases where the branches fail to do so, Dr. Locastro can remove these branches through a series of tiny incisions. No stitches are required, and people generally return to natural activity the next day.
