Phlebitis

Phlebitis is a common condition of people with varicose veins. When veins become dilated there is an increased tendency for them to clot. When a vein that lies just under the skin clots off, this is a condition known as phlebitis. The area of the clotted vein becomes firm and red. It usually resolves in a few weeks.

Treatment consists of warm compresses, aspirin, and compression stockings. At the Total Vein Treatment Center we see many patients with phlebitis. We will treat the bout of phlebitis, and evaluate for the cause of the varicose vein. Often, treating the varicose vein will help eliminate further problems with phlebitis.
